we are sumboxes. a small but mighty math force for good!
we believe that mathematics education is one of the most essential elements preparing children for success in school and beyond.
we also believe it should be a lot more interesting than just rote memorization and worksheets.
but it shouldn’t require teachers or families to spend hours searching for an idea, printing out pages upon pages, scouring stores for dice and cards and counters (oh my!), and spending a small fortune just to spend time helping their kiddos learn.
these are just a few of the reasons why we decided to take matters into our own hands and make some aesthetically pleasing games that are entertaining, mathematically sound, teacher/family/kid friendly, and ready to play right out of the box!
our chief game designer has over 30+ years of experience in the classroom, coaching teachers, and advising schools. she has dedicated her career to helping kids excel in math, and her work at sumboxes is no exception. her detailed lesson notes not only explain how to play the games, but they also cite the academic research behind our methodologies and give parents/teachers extra tools to deepen conversations with their kids about math.
our games span from Kindergarten through Grade 5 and cover everything from learning to count, to multiplying two-digit numbers, to adding fractions! while games may be labeled K -5, they can be easily modified up or down to meet a variety of skill levels.
